Congregational Picnic at Hicks Lake – June 23
Date: June 23, 2019
Gather at the Hyer-Wanlin camp on Hicks Lake for the final service of the regular church year and enjoy our annual picnic. LUF’s annual picnic will be held at Bruce and Margaret’s camp on Hicks Lake on Sunday, June 23.
What to bring:
Bug Spray and/or bug net hat, etc.
A bathing suit
Something to BBQ
Something to share like salad, fruit, veggies and dip, dessert, etc.
Your own beverages (coffee and tea will be provided)
A folding chair if that is easy for you. We have some.
(We have lots of dishes, glasses, etc. so please don’t bring throw away dishes, cups or utensils.)
We’re looking forward to a fun afternoon filled with:
A brief Service at 2:00 pm.
Enjoying the great outdoors and especially the lake.
Swimming for the brave.
Swimming after a sauna for the courageous.
Fun games like three-legged races and running with an egg on a spoon for the young at heart, and a croquet match.
Chillin’, hanging out, visiting and spending time with Unitarian friends of all ages.
The property is flat and grassy with a sandy swimming area – very child-friendly. There are a few steps up to the deck and camp.
How to get there:
Travel east on the Thunder Bay Expressway.
Turn left and go north on Highway 527 toward Armstrong. You’ll pass Kingfisher Lake Outdoor Education Centre.
After almost half an hour on Hwy 527 you will see Dog River on your right, then Orr’s Store on your left. Hick’s Lake Road is the first road on the right after Dog River.
Our camp is 2.5 km off the highway. Travel on Hicks Lake Road until you see our white sign “Spruce Forest 244”.
There is a bright orange pylon at the end of the driveway.
Car pooling: If you are able to offer others a ride, or if you need a ride, please contact Pyteke Blaauw. Blaauw.email@example.com 629-2279
If you want to call and check on the weather, our cellphones work there: Bruce 708 4080 , Margaret 627 1404 .
If the day is “iffy” come anyway. There is quite a bit of indoor space for visiting, church service and eating.
