Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Campaign

Date: May 02, 2022

Putting faith into action, the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship (LUF) has raised funds for the Canadian Red Cross humanitarian campaign in Ukraine. Beginning shortly after the invasion on February 24th, members purchased donated pysanky (traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs) and made individual contributions. Donations came from as far away as Colorado and California.

LUF strives to be an inclusive spiritual community promoting a compassionate, just and sustainable world. Living these values includes choosing both global and local causes to support each year.  In the past these have included the Regional Multicultural Association, the Underground Gym, LifeWater, Grandmothers for Africa, as well as ongoing support for the Empty Bowls-Caring Hearts campaign.

A cheque for $3,000 was presented to Daniel Hobbs of the local Red Cross office by LUF’s Treasurer Margaret Wanlin, Board member David Belrose and pysanka-maker Hanusia Tkaczyk on May 2. The congregation’s campaign will continue throughout 2022.
